Janice is an energy efficiency native, raised in the '70s in a home with solar hot water, foam insulation, and a dad who knew his way around the local home improvement store. She founded Pando Alliance in 2010 as a sole proprietor, singlehandedly performing all program inspections and testing in the early years. Drawing on 20 years of management experience in the home center industry, she has integrated strong client relation skills and sound business sense with her enthusiasm for sustainable building practices. Janice’s diverse education includes extensive studies in business, architecture, and building science. She maintains credentials as a LEED AP BD+C, LEED for Homes Green Rater, BPI Building Analyst, NGBS Green Verifier, and HERS Rater.
Janice and Thiel actively support the industry, both nationally and at the community level. Janice serves on USGBC Maryland's Multifamily Housing Committee and was appointed to the Howard County Energy Task Force. At the national level, Thiel serves in a leadership capacity for the development of RESNET’s HERS rating standards. Both have presented at national industry conferences.
Pando Alliance actively supports various housing organizations such as MAHC and HAND. Both Janice and Thiel participate in MAHC's Construction Committee, where Pando has given multiple technical presentations on energy efficient construction practices. As an original participant in Maryland’s ENERGY STAR Homes utility rebate programs, Pando Alliance has been the proud recipient of numerous program partner awards.
Thiel (pronounced "teal") joined the Pando Alliance team in 2014 and became a principal in 2016. She entered the industry as an AmeriCorps*VISTA in Construction Development at Habitat for Humanity, where she facilitated their transition to building ENERGY STAR Certified Homes for low-income homebuyers. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Ecological Design from Prescott College and a Master of Business Administration from Hood College. She sits on RESNET’s Board of Directors and Technical Standards Development Committee, lending her multifamily perspective to the process. With roots in field experience, she maintains credentials as a LEED for Homes Green Rater, BPI Building Analyst & Envelope Professional, NGBS Green Verifier, PHIUS+ Rater, and HERS Rater.
Michael joined the Pando Alliance team in 2015 with four years’ prior experience in residential energy efficiency. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science & Policy from the University of Maryland in 2009. Michael is an accredited NGBS Master Verifier, one of only a handful of individuals nationwide to earn this credential. Additionally, he is credentialed as a BPI Building Analyst & Multifamily Building Analyst, an NGBS Green Verifier, a PHIUS+ Rater, and a HERS Rater.
DJ joined the Pando Alliance team in 2016, bringing with him seven years of residential energy efficiency experience, five of which he spent in green certification consulting. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science & Policy from the University of Maryland in 2010. DJ is credentialed as a LEED for Homes Green Rater, BPI Building Analyst & Multifamily Building Analyst & Envelope Professional, NGBS Green Verifier, PHIUS+ Verifier, and HERS Rater.
Zach joined the Pando Alliance team in 2017, bringing with him 10 years of attentive customer service experience. Pulling from his years of store, employee, and client relationship management, Zach has developed a sense of project ownership that he carries forward to his work with Pando. His commitment to accuracy, coupled with his customer service orientation, position him as a strong member of the Pando team. Zach is credentialed as an NGBS Green Verifier and HERS Rater.
Cindy joined the Pando Alliance team in 2018, bringing with her six years of experience in construction and real estate. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science & Policy from the University of Maryland in 2012. She is fluent in Spanish, making her a strong addition to the Pando team. Cindy is credentialed as an NGBS Green Verifier and HERS Rater.
Mike joined the Pando Alliance team in 2019, bringing with him seven years of green building experience in residential new construction and existing homes. He has extensive experience in program training, compliance oversight, and process development, as well as a passion for architecture and design. His diverse range of work experience makes him an excellent addition to the Pando team. Mike is credentialed as a RESNET HERS Rater.
Connor joined the Pando Alliance team in 2019, bringing with him three years of project management skills and a holistic knowledge of sustainability. Connor graduated with his Master of Sustainability and Master of Business Administration in 2019 from Chatham University. He is working towards his RESNET HERS Rater credential.
Nicole joined the Pando Alliance team in 2017, bringing with her six years of administrative support experience. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in French and German Language from Hood College in 2012. Driven to support the team's mission in making green housing attainable, Nicole is now developing proficiency in the language of energy efficiency. She is dedicated to supporting the smooth operation of Pando and works closely with the whole team.
